According to Senator Jean Paul Prates, the winter will be harsh and there will be a price crisis in Europe. For this reason, Petrobras is taking measures to control its stock and get through this period with peace of mind.

It is important to mention that this parliamentarian is the coordinator of the oil sub-group. It's worth mentioning that he is one of the people tipped to take over the state-owned company in the government of then president-elect Lula.

Other important issues were discussed at the same meeting, such as the pricing policy and international parities. This simple attitude led to the sale of state-owned refineries, as well as the company's logistics and refining policy.

In some interviews with journalists, Patres said that the new management could change the company's strategic planning. He also confirmed that the state-owned company cannot just extract oil from the pre-salt and then distribute it in dividends. New measures need to be taken.

About Petrobras

Petrobras is a Brazilian oil company. This company is dedicated to exporting, transporting, refining, producing and marketing oil and oil products, as well as natural gas for the national territory and other countries around the world.

The company also operates in the country's energy sector, mainly in thermoelectric power generation and renewable sources. Petrobras also works on developing research and technological advances to improve oil exploration.

Throughout its history, the company is a big name on the market, both nationally and internationally. Headquartered in the Rio de Janeiro region, this brand continues to operate in deepwater and ultra-deepwater oil exploration.

History of Petrobras

Founded in 1953, Petrobras is a major player in the Brazilian economy, producing and selling oil and oil products. Until the creation of the company, there was a debate in the political and civil spheres about oil exploration in Brazil.

Gaspar Dutra's government, which preceded Vargas', was in favor of including foreign companies in Brazil's oil exploration project. In 1948, the Petroleum Statute was published, which aimed to regulate this activity, but the document was shelved.

On the other hand, the nationalist group was in favor of a state oil monopoly, creating the Oil Campaign. This group became known for the phrase "oil is ours". This campaign received the support of various segments, which led to the 1953 Law, which established the creation of Petrobras.

Relevance of Petrobras

Petrobras is an extremely important company for Brazil. The company's figures show this relevance. In addition, it shows the size of the technological challenge and reveals the company's importance in different areas, such as:

  • Geopolitics;
  • Economic Transformation;
  • Social Transformation;
  • Politics;
  • Strategic;
  • Scientific Production;
  • Technological Production;
  • National Energy Security.

In short, this shows how important Petrobras is to the Brazilian people, since it has discovered one of the largest oil provinces in the world. Oil is an important item for independent socio-economic development, as it guarantees high levels of human well-being.

In a geopolitical sense, Petrobras is important, since oil is the most disputed natural asset on the planet. Furthermore, without oil or Petrobras, there is no national energy security or economic development.

Currently, Brazil has the largest oil reserves of around 8.1 million barrels, providing the country with energy security for eight years. It is worth noting that this company reinforces the importance of scientific and technological production in the country, helping with investments.

Petrobras and the economy

Like any other company, Petrobras has dividends. In other words, an amount goes to its shareholders, which is calculated taking into account the number of shares each shareholder owns, as well as the company's profit in a given period.

In 2021, for example, the company's net profit was R $106.6 billion, which was an increase of 1,400% when compared to the previous year. With this amount, Petrobras paid R $202.9 billion in taxes and R $37.3 billion in dividends.

Another important point was the company's performance in the first quarter of 2022, which was also a record. Results amounted to R $44.5 billion, an increase of 3.000% over the same period last year.

Through these results, the state-owned company pointed out the main elements in the asset sale policy, which were considered inadequate for the company's current strategic policy. With a view to making changes, the agency presented the company with a new risk rating in September 2021.

Some experts point out that the main cause of the results is the surge in oil prices and, consequently, fuel prices. In other words, with more expensive fuel, the company's margin has also increased.

This led to criticism of the company's strategic policy. The process happened because of international price parity, where Petrobras sought to follow the price of oil. The main objective is to avoid a gap between the prices charged in Brazil and in other countries.

Petrobras tends to create a strategic plan between 2022 and 2026, involving settling its debt and investing in reducing the emission of polluting gases. In addition, the company aims to invest in the modernization of refining, as well as the commercial opening of derivatives and natural gas. The company wants to invest around R $340 billion in the production and exploration area.
